The Scientific Committee of AIMS organized a Synopsis Writing Workshop for 1st-year MD/MS students on 22nd and 23rd April 2025 at the Global Broadcasting Center, AIMS. The workshop aimed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to develop a clear, structured, and scientifically sound research synopsis.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. M. G. Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS and Dean of Health Sciences (Medical), Adichunchanagiri University, in the presence of Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal, and Dr. Amita K, Scientific Committee Coordinator.
Day 1 Sessions
The academic sessions began with the following lectures:
• “How to Select a Topic for Dissertation” – Dr. Tejaswi H. L.
• “Research Hypothesis and Research Question” – Dr. Aliya Nusrath
• “How to Perform a Literature Search” – Dr. Rakshitha H. B.
• “How to Write a Review of Literature” – Dr. Dhanalakshmi T. A.
• “How to Frame Objectives and Write the Introduction/Need for the Study” – Dr. Amita K
• “Types of Data, Variables, and Variability” – Dr. Varsha G
• “Study Designs” – Dr. Aliya Nusrath
Day 2 Sessions
The second day began with reflections on Day 1 by Dr. Vaibhavi S, followed by a series of informative sessions:
• “Sample Size Calculation” – Dr. Krishnaveni Y. S.
• “Choosing Statistical Tests” and a Group Activity on study designs and statistical tests – Dr. Raghavendra S. K.
• “ICMR Proposal Submission Guidelines” – Dr. Amita K
• “How to Write a Title” – Dr. Nitha
• “Template for Synopsis Writing” – Dr. Kusuma K. N.
• “Reference Writing and Plagiarism” – Dr. Bhagyashree N
• “Ethics in Medical Research” – Dr. Dhanalakshmi T. A.
The workshop concluded with the collection of feedback, followed by the valedictory ceremony and distribution of certificates to all resource faculty and participating postgraduate students.
The workshop successfully empowered 1st-year postgraduate students with the ability to independently design and draft a well-structured, methodologically sound research synopsis—suitable for both ethical clearance and academic evaluation.
