Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (DVL)

Vision

The Department will seek to be a centre of excellence with emphasis on socially meaningful undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, research and health care in areas of Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy and Cosmetic dermatology.

Mission

1. To provide outstanding educational experiences to students through competent facilitators and supportive infrastructure to transform them into confident, socially responsible Dermatologists.

2. Strive to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive, cost effective, community oriented quality health care services in the areas of Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy and Cosmetic Dermatology.

3. To facilitate quality research studies and research training programmes to postgraduate students and faculty by providing stimulating environment that nurtures scientific thinking.

4. Promoting the use of latest technology like LASERS in patient care and promoting technology-enabled learning by effective use of ICT in all teaching and learning methods.

Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (DVL)

Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences was started in January 1986. Post-graduation in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (DVL) was started in the year 2009 with one MD seat and one Diploma seat headed by Professor Dr B.D. Sathyanarayana. Other staff in the department were late Dr H.B. Basavaraju as Professor, Dr Nischal and Dr Ranga Swaroop as assistant professors and Dr N P Umashankar as senior resident. In the year 2011 one more MD seat was added.

Department of DVL is situated in first floor of hospital building. It serves the educational needs of undergraduates, post graduates and research scholars.

In the year 2015, a full-fledged Aesthetic Dermatology and Dermatosurgery unit was established and is working in full swing. Department of DVL is involved in patient care and offers full range of services comprising of general dermatology, dermatosurgery, cosmetology at a very affordable cost. We are dedicated to improve healthcare of our patients, using the latest and advanced techniques and in training post graduates in clinical Dermatology including aesthetics.

We constantly strive to provide compassionate and exemplary services for our patients, while educating post graduates in the art and science of Dermatology.

Goals:

The Department aims to be a centre of excellence in the field of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy and strives to develop state of the art technology for modern Aesthetic Dermatology and Dermatosurgery.

Objectives:

  1. To provide quality healthcare at affordable cost.
  2. To provide quality education to students and conduct quality research studies and research training programmes to postgraduate students and faculty.
  3. To conduct National and state level CMEs and Workshops on a regular basis in the field of Dermatology Venereology, Leprosy and Aesthetic Dermatology.
  4. To start fellowship programmes in Pediatric Dermatology, Dermatosurgery and aesthetic Dermatology.
