The department is dedicated to excel students in fundamental knowledge of Biochemistry to understand life at molecular level, application of scientific methods in innovative research and provide health care to the community.

Medicine at Molecular Level

Medical Biochemistry is the branch of Medicine, which seeks to advance the understanding of chemical structures and processes that constitute health and disease, and underlie transformation between these two states. Its applicative arm is clinical chemistry, a field that focuses on the investigations and interpretation of biochemical tests performed on body fluids and tissues to aid in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease.

The Department of Biochemistry, a part of this esteemed institution consists of areas of teaching, research and laboratory services. It is situated in the first floor of college building. It serves the educational needs of undergraduates, post graduates and research scholars. It also caters to needs of health service by providing clinical laboratory investigations.

Undergraduate course M.B.B.S., started in the year 1986 and Postgraduate course M.D, Biochemistry started in the year 1997. The department has excellent teaching faculty for both UG and PG. The students and staff are encouraged and guided to conduct regularly research activity. Shared research interests are cultivated by presentations, seminars, regular scientific conferences and interdepartmental research units.

The department has an excellent state of art clinical biochemistry laboratory with qualified biochemists and skilled technicians to cater the laboratory needs of patient.

Goals and Objectives

Goals:

To train the undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and research scholars in academics, research and laboratory medicine.
To provide accurate and precise laboratory reports aiding in complete evaluation and total management of patients
To promote research activities among students and faculty

Objectives:

To teach biochemical process and reactions in the human body and recognize relevance of these process in diagnosis, patient care and treatment.
To train the UG and PG in practical skills of biochemical investigations and interpretation of the same in solving Clinical Problems.
To organize integrated teaching for complete understanding of various concepts in medicine.
To train postgraduates in teaching skills by encouraging to participate in UG teaching and presentation of seminars.
To conduct journal review meetings and critically analyze the original research.
To train postgraduate students in techniques of laboratory medicine, clinical interpretation of laboratory findings and clinical case discussion.
To organize CME, guest lectures, conference and workshop etc, to update students and faculty in recent biochemical concepts
To provide quality laboratory services to the society.
To encourage and facilitate the students and faculty to actively participate in clinical research.
