World AIDS Day Celebration – Dec 1 2023

On December 1, 2023, in commemoration of World AIDS Day, an awareness program was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine in collaboration with Sri Adichunchanagiri College of Arts and Commerce, Nagamangala, and the Indian Youth Red Cross. The event took place at the BGS Auditorium of Adichunchanagiri College of Arts and Commerce, Nagamangala, under the theme “Let Communities Lead.”

The primary objective of the event were to foster awareness regarding the modes of transmission and early diagnosis of HIV infection and AIDS.

Dr. Ashok NC, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, served as the chief guest and addressed the students on the significance of observing World AIDS Day. Dr. Madhura MM provided detailed information about symptoms, modes of transmission, and the services offered at the ART center of the hospital. Dr. Krishnaveni discussed adolescent health, addressing issues such as managing peer pressure and the importance of services like Sneha Clinic. Mr. Thimmaraju, the District Advisor of HIV, shed light on the current scenarios of HIV infections in adolescents and encouraged them to adopt preventive measures. HS Ravindra, the Principal of the college, advised students to make the most of the program for their benefit. Mohan Kumar from the Indian Youth Red Cross assisted in organizing the event and summarized the session.

The program witnessed active student participation, with students engaging with the resource persons. A significant outcome was the students collectively taking an oath to disseminate information about prevention and early diagnosis while actively working to eliminate the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. This demonstrated the success of the program in achieving its objectives and fostering a sense of responsibility among the student community. ‎
