On January 30, 2025, the Department of Dermatology, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) and Adichunchanagiri Hospital and Research  Center  organized a Free Skin and Leprosy Screening Camp at Community Health Centre, Bellur, in collaboration with the Health and Family Welfare Department, Mandya. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Adarsh, Tahsildar, Nagamangala Taluk, and Honourable Vice Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University, Dr. M A Shekhar, along with senior officials from AIMS and the local administration. The program commenced with an invocation song, followed by an insightful presentation on leprosy transmission, symptoms, and treatment by Dr. Harshini.

A two-minute silence was observed in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

The chief guest emphasized Gandhiji’s role in eradicating leprosy-related stigma, while Dr. M A Shekhar provided medical insights to dispel myths about the disease.

The event also featured a rally, where students, doctors, and ASHA workers distributed awareness pamphlets, reinforcing the message that leprosy is curable.

The event aimed to raise awareness about leprosy, encourage early detection, and reduce social stigma through education, screenings, and community engagement. Over 100 patients were examined and treated at the free skin camp, with necessary medications provided. The active participation of health officials, students, and local dignitaries fostered community involvement, reinforcing the importance of early intervention and leprosy treatment. The rally and pamphlet distribution further helped in educating the public, dispelling myths, and promoting inclusivity for those affected by leprosy.
