The Departments of Microbiology and Pharmacology, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists, Karnataka Chapter, organized a poster competition on November 23, 2024, in observance of “World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week” (November 18-24, 2024). The theme of the event was ‘Educate, Advocate, Act Now.’
The event aimed to raise awareness among medical students about antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Dr MG Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS and Dean Health Sciences (Medical) and Dr Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal, AIMS inaugurated the event. A total of seventeen teams, comprising 67 students, participated in the poster competition, which was attended by approximately 100 Phase 2 MBBS students. Dr. Mahendra G, Prof and Head, Dept of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Dr. Mahesh DV, Prof and Head , Dept of Orthopedics served as judges for the competition.
Outcome of the Program: The objectives of the event were successfully achieved. The students gained valuable knowledge about the current burden of antimicrobial resistance, the factors contributing to the emergence of AMR, and the action plans available to prevent its further spread.
