National Anti-Leprosy Day Skin Camp

Venue: Community Health Centre, Hirisave, Channarayapatna
On the occasion of National Anti-Leprosy Day and Martyrs’ Day (Mahatma Gandhi’s Death Anniversary),* the Department of Dermatology, in collaboration with CHC Hirisave, organized a free leprosy screening and skin health camp.
*Objectives of the programme:*
Raise awareness about leprosy, its symptoms, transmission, treatment, and dispel myths.
Encourage early detection through dermatology screening and self-examination.
Commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s efforts in leprosy care.
Provide free medical consultation and treatment.
Strengthen community health education via pamphlets and preventive guidance.
*Event Highlights:*
The inaugural function began at 10:30 AM with an invocation by Ms. Anvitha (Intern, AIMS) and a welcome by Mr. Umesh B.K., Registrar, AIMS.
Two-minute silence observed at 11:00 AM to honor Mahatma Gandhi.
Dr. Rakshith D (PG, Dermatology) spoke on leprosy symptoms and treatment; Dr. Ravi K.S (Vice Principal, ENT HOD) highlighted Gandhiji’s role; Dr. Shivaswami (AMO, CHC Hirisave) spoke on preventive measures.
Other dignitaries included Dr. Yogesh D (HOD, Dermatology) and Mr. Dharmendra Y.P. (PRO, AIMS).
Dr. Rakshith D anchored the event; a rally with pamphlet distribution was conducted to raise awareness.
The free skin camp treated ~50 patients, screened for leprosy and other skin conditions.
*Outcomes:*
Awareness about leprosy, its curability, and stigma reduction was achieved.
Community involvement was strong through student and local official participation.
