ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH- 2026

The *Road Safety Awareness Program* was held on 22 January 2026 at Lecture Hall–1, AIMS, as part of Road Safety Awareness Month 2026 for bus and ambulance drivers of the university and MBBS phase 1 students. It was jointly organized by AIMS NSS units 1,2 and Assistant Regional Transport Office, Nagamangala Taluk. 
 
The program commenced with a formal inauguration and welcome of dignitaries, including officials from the Nagamangala ARTO – Mr. Honnegowda, ARTO, Senior Inspector Satheesh CS and Sub Inspector Shabaz Banu, from department of Motor Vehicle, Mr. Ravikumar, Police Sub Inspector, Bellur and Administrative officials of Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, ACU- Dr. MG Shivaramu, Principal and Dean Faculty of Medial and Allied  Health Sciences, Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal, AIMS, Mr. B K Umesh, Finance Officer and Registrar of AIMS, Dr. Somshekar, RMO and Dr. Varsha G, NSS Unit 2 Officer, AIMS.
 
The ARTO officials delivered an informative session focusing on common causes of road traffic accidents, legal aspects and penalties for traffic violations, importance of lane discipline, speed limits, and pedestrian safety and role of professional drivers in ensuring public safety. Real-life case examples and statistics were shared to underline the seriousness of road safety violations. 
 
The session highlighted the medical and social consequences of road traffic injuries, including disability, trauma burden, and preventable deaths. Students were motivated to act as road safety ambassadors, spreading awareness among peers and the community. The program concluded with a pledge to follow traffic rules and promote safe driving practices, reinforcing collective responsibility toward road safety.
 
 *Outcome of the event* : 
This program enhanced and solidified the understanding regarding health impact and consequences of road traffic accidents among the students and drivers creating positive attitude change toward responsible road usage and compliance with traffic laws. The program reinforced the message that road safety is a shared responsibility, contributing to the broader goal of reducing road traffic accidents and saving lives.
