To mark the ”International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, the Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), in collaboration with the AIMS NSS Unit and Bellur Police Station, organized a large-scale Awareness Rally from AIMS campus to Bellur Cross on 26th June 2025.
The event aimed to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from medical students, faculty, NSS volunteers, and police officials, who marched with placards and slogans emphasizing the theme “Say No to Drugs”.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was graced by the presence of Dr.M A Shekar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, ACU;
Dr. Subbaraya, Registrar, ACU;
Dr .M G. Shivaramu, Dean & Principal Faculty of Medical And Allied Health Sciences, AIMS.

Dr. Raghavendra S.K., HOD, Department of Community Medicine.
 
Dr. M.G. Shivaramu, Dean and Principal of AIMS, addressed the gathering and cautioned that the possession, distribution, and use of narcotic substances are illegal and punishable by law. He emphasized that Adichunchanagiri University is committed to building a drug-free campus and administered an anti-drug pledge to hundreds of students.
DYSP Nagamangala Mr.Chaluvaraju, , spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse, the responsibilities of citizens, and explained the relevant legal provisions.
Circle Inspector Mr. Niranjan urged students to report any incidents of drug use either to college authorities or the police without hesitation and he urged the students to come together and work towards making society drug free.
The rally highlighted the significance of youth involvement in creating a drug-free society and reinforced the need for community cooperation in tackling this global challenge. The police officers addressed the gathering, sharing valuable insights into the legal framework and community-level strategies to prevent substance abuse.
 
OUTCOME:
• The event successfully raised public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of living in a drug-free society.
• The rally reinforced the importance of community cooperation in tacking the drug abuse problem.
• The Programme emphasized the critical role of youth in promoting a drug free environment.
• Police officers provided valuable insights into the legal framework related to drug abuse and how law enforcement can support preventive measures.
• The rally prominently featured the “Say no to Drugs” slogan, reinforcing the anti-drug message.

Dr. M.G. Shivaramu concluded the event by thanking all participants and reaffirming AIMS‘s commitment to health promotion, youth engagement, and social responsibility
