Objectives of the event

1.     To provide an overview of the good clinical practices to be adhered to while conducting clinical research

2.     To familiarize the participants with ethical review procedures, functioning of IEC

3.     To provide an insight in to the protocol writing and documentation

4.     To train the students to include all the relevant contents in a research protocol

To educate the students about clinical trials and the documentation required

Brief Report of the Event

The program commenced at 8:30 AM with participant registration and a pre-test, both coordinated by Dr. Vagdevi H.R., Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, AIMS. Registration was completed by 9:15 AM, following which the scientific sessions commenced. Two scientific sessions were conducted namely “Ethical Principles in Clinical Research: Ensuring Participant Protection and Public Trust” by Dr Kokila BN, Professor and HOD, Dept of Pharmacology followed by “Functioning of IEC, informed consent and assent, vulnerability, privacy and confidentiality” by Dr Ravi Shankar M, Professor, Dept of Pharmacology.”

The inauguration function followed with Dr Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal and Professor and HOD, Dept of Biochemistry as the chief guest. Invocation song was sung by Ms. Anagha 2nd year MBBS student. This was followed by 2 more scientific sessions “Clinical trial Protocol: Design, Implementation and Compliance” by Dr Harsha Kumar HN, Professor, Dept of Community Professor, and “Clinical trial phases, regulatory requirement for conducting clinical trials” by Dr Divya, Associate Professor, Dept of Physiology. This was followed by post -test by Dr Unnikrishnan G, Senior Resident, Dept of Pharmacology, and vote of thanks by Dr Ravi M, Associate Professor, Dept of Pharmacology

Feedback Analysis (Brief)

 

The participants found the topics to be relevant. They believed they are going to use the information gained in the workshop for clinical research. They were happy with the venue and they found that the program was well organized and was for the adequate time.

Outcome

1.     The participants would be able to conduct clinical research with relevance to the good clinical practice guidelines.

2.     The participants would be able to construct the informed consent document which is mandatory for ethical clearance.

3.     The participants would be aware of ethical review procedures.

The participants would be familiar with the contents of clinical research protocol and would be better equipped to construct a complete and an adequate protocol.

Challenges Faced

Shortage of faculty members, leading to increased workload in organizing and coordinating the workshop.

Difficulty in balancing routine academic duties with workshop planning and execution.

Recommendations

Strengthen faculty manpower and promote collaborative planning to ensure smooth conduct of future workshops and training programs
