Report of a programme on “MOOT COURT” Conducted by the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology in association with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

  • On account of National Forensic Medicine Day, the department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, in association with the department of OBG, has organized a moot court programme on 24.05.2024.
  • Our beloved Principal, Dr. M G Shivaramu, faculty of Forensic medicine, PG’s & Interns of OBG, and students from the 3rd term participated in the session. Dr Chinmayi Yelauri, Associate Professor, FMT welcomed the gathering. The 3rd term MBBS students of 2022 batch enacted how a courtroom proceeding will be held on a fictitious sexual offense case, highlighting the role of a doctor in the courtroom and how the evidence will be recorded in the court of Law. The objective of the moot court session was to sensitize the UG MBBS students about the basic court proceedings and legal procedures when a medical witness (doctor) is summoned to court.
  • The court proceedings in the Mock court complex in the department were relayed and live-streamed in the classrooms for the benefit of UG students. The second session involved a role play of a POCSO case examined and performed by Dr Nikitha, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG as an expert witness, Dr. Ravindra Pukale, Prof & HOD of OBG as a sitting honorable Judge, Dr Kumar as defense counselor and Dr. Chinmayi as a public prosecutor, Dr Vijay Kumar A G, Prof & Head, Department of FMT, was the moderator for the courtroom proceedings.
  • A total of 40 faculty, PG’s and interns from FMT, OBG, Psychiatry, community medicine departments and 250 UG MBBS students attended the court session. After the courtroom sessions, there was an interactive discussion and senior faculty addressed all the queries and practical problems which arise when examining and giving evidence in a case of a sexual offense. The programme concluded with closing remarks by our beloved principal. He enlightened the audience with his expertise. The programme was a grand success in terms of excellent outcomes on facing the courts, whenever a doctor is summoned as an expert witness to testify and give evidence on a case matter. Feedback was taken from the participants.
