Subbaraya, Registrar; and attended by Deans, Principals, Vice Principals, other university officials; faculty; staff; and students from all constituent institutions of ACU.

Objectives of the event

The 79th Independence Day celebrations at AIMS aimed to instill patriotism and national pride among students, faculty, and staff while honoring the sacrifices of great freedom fighters. The event sought to strengthen unity through collective participation in flag hoisting, cultural programmes, and university-level celebrations. It encouraged student involvement in patriotic activities that foster creativity, discipline, and teamwork, while also highlighting India’s remarkable progress across diverse fields. Furthermore, the programme promoted institutional representation at the University level and recognized student talent through participation and achievements in cultural competitions.

Brief Report of the Event

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) on 15th August 2025. The celebrations were held in two phases—initially at the AIMS Quadrangle, followed by participation in the University-level programme at the ACU Stadium.

 

At AIMS, the programme commenced at 7:00 a.m. with the rendering of the National Song and a ceremonial pooja. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. M. G. Shivaramu, Principal & Dean, Faculty of Medical & Allied Health Sciences, ACU; Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal; Dr. Ravi K. S., Deputy COH; Mr. B. K. Umesh, Registrar; Mr. Chandan Raj, Administrative Officer; Mr. Kiran, Director of Physical Education; along with faculty members, their families, non-teaching staff, students, and security personnel.

 

Following the flag hoisting and the National Anthem, Dr. M. G. Shivaramu addressed the gathering. In his speech, he urged everyone to remember the sacrifices of the great freedom fighters and highlighted the nation’s remarkable progress in diverse sectors including the economy, science, and technology. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of sweets to all attendees.

 

Subsequently, faculty and students from AIMS actively participated in the University-level celebrations at the ACU Stadium. The grand event was presided over by Poojya Sri Sri Satkirthinatha Swamiji with other dignitaries as Dr. S. N. Shridhar, Honourable Vice Chancellor; Dr. C. K. Subbaraya, Registrar; and attended by Deans, Principals, Vice Principals, other university officials; faculty; staff; and students from all constituent institutions of ACU. The celebrations featured a cultural competition showcasing patriotic themes, with participation from over 2,000 attendees.

It is a matter of pride that the Phase 3, Part 1 MBBS students of AIMS secured the Second Prize in the competition. Their presentation was a dynamic dance–drama titled “A Tribute to Veera Sangolli Rayanna”, depicting his fearless battles, unyielding spirit, and ultimate sacrifice for the motherland—a performance that evoked deep pride and patriotism among the audience.
