Brief Report of the Event |
The Medical Education Unit (MEU), Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, organized the Internship Orientation Programme for the MBBS 2021 Batch on 02 June 2026 at the BGS Global Broadcasting Centre, AIMS. The programme commenced with registration and a pre-test from 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the inaugural session from 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The orientation programme was graced by Dr. M G Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS and Dean, Faculty of Medical & Allied Health Sciences, ACU; Dr. K M Shivakumar, Chief of Hospital, AH & RC; Dr. Ravi K S, Vice Principal, AH & RC; and Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal and Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry. The scientific sessions began with a keynote address by Dr. M G Shivaramu, who emphasized professional ethics, patient-centered care, and the importance of internship in shaping competent medical graduates. Dr. K M Shivakumar delivered an informative session on the duties and responsibilities of interns in the hospital, highlighting professional conduct, patient safety, teamwork, and accountability. Dr. Aliya Nusrath provided a detailed overview of the latest NMC Internship Guidelines and explained the expectations, assessment methods, attendance requirements, and learning outcomes associated with internship training. Dr. Vidyasagar K, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, conducted a session on Hospital Infection Control, emphasizing hand hygiene, infection prevention strategies, and universal precautions. Following the lunch break, Dr. Namitha D, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, discussed specimen collection guidelines for laboratory testing in Biochemistry, focusing on proper sample collection, handling, transportation, and quality assurance. Dr. Rakshitha H B, Professor, Department of Pathology, explained specimen collection guidelines for laboratory testing in Pathology and highlighted common errors affecting diagnostic accuracy. Dr. Raghavendra S K, Associate Professor and I/c Head, Department of Community Medicine, delivered a session on Biomedical Waste Management and stressed the importance of segregation, disposal protocols, and regulatory compliance in healthcare settings. The final scientific session was conducted by Dr. Raghavendra S K on Post-Exposure Prophylaxis, where interns were oriented regarding occupational exposure risks, reporting procedures, and preventive measures. The programme concluded with a valedictory session and interaction with interns. Participants expressed appreciation for the comprehensive orientation and the practical guidance provided by the resource persons. |
