World Anatomy Day 2026: Anatomy Through Art and Creative Expression

The Department of Anatomy, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), B.G. Nagara, celebrated World Anatomy Day on 29 October 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The theme was “Anatomy through Art and Creative Expression,” and students from across MBBS phases and Allied Health Sciences programmes took part in creative competitions.

Dignitaries

The following dignitaries graced the celebration:

  • Dr. Aliya Nusrath, Vice Principal, AIMS, and Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry
  • Dr. Anand K.S.S., Professor and Head, Department of Physiology
  • Dr. Raghavendra S.K., Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine

Competitions

The department held four competitions:

  • Drawing and Painting
  • Pencil Sketch
  • Anatomy Reels
  • Body Painting

Students showed anatomical structures, organ systems and surface anatomy through artwork and short videos. In the body painting competition, they painted anatomy directly onto volunteers.

More than 236 students took part:

  • over 200 Phase I MBBS students
  • 28 Phase II MBBS students
  • 4 Phase III MBBS students
  • 4 AHS students

Outcomes

The competitions helped students:

  • reinforce their understanding of anatomical structures through visual and creative work
  • relate surface anatomy to the structures beneath, through body painting
  • use digital media for peer learning and science communication, through the reels
  • work together across phases and programmes, which encouraged creativity, teamwork and interaction

Conclusion

The celebration marked World Anatomy Day in a creative and engaging way and reinforced anatomy’s place as the foundation of medical science. The entries have been evaluated, and the results and prizes will be announced at a valedictory function at a later date. The Department of Anatomy thanks the dignitaries, faculty and all participating students for making the event a success.
