A two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop was organized by AIMS Skill and Simulation Centre on 18th & 19th July 2023 for 1st year postgraduate students.
 
The workshop was conducted by Major (Dr.) Abhijith Y V (Retd.)  IAP-BLS   instructor. Major Abhijith discussed and provided hands on experience to all the students on appropriate basic life support to be given during emergency conditions using different rescue techniques for choking in adult, child & infant, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
 
The program was presided over by Dr. M G Shivaramu, Principal, AIMS and Dean, Health Sciences (Medical) ACU. Other dignitaries included Dr Vinay Bhat Coordinator of Skill and Simulation centre and team members
 
The workshop was attended by 74 first year postgraduate students from various departments. All of them actively participated and benefited from the hands-on training done during the BLS workshop. 
 
The workshop provided them a valuable opportunity to become more skilled in handling emergency situations and respond competently to life-threatening emergencies in adults and children.
 
The key message from the workshop:
  • Knowledge and skill development is essential to provide Basic Life Support
  • Confidence, competence, teamwork and effective communication is the key for effective delivery of care during emergency situations.
  • Regular training in awareness of emergency response systems and protocols is mandate for all health care providers to overcome the limitation of conventional knowledge-based learning.
