Brief report of the event (in about 200 words)

The Department of Community Medicine, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with AIMS NSS Units 1 & 2, organized a World Breastfeeding Week awareness programme on 06 August 2026 at Community Health Centre, Bellur. The programme was conducted to commemorate World Breastfeeding Week 2026 and to promote the importance of breastfeeding for improving maternal and child health. The event focused on the official theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”
The programme included health education sessions on the benefits of early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, appropriate positioning and attachment, and continued breastfeeding with complementary feeding up to two years and beyond. Interactive discussions addressed common myths and misconceptions regarding breastfeeding. Mothers were encouraged to seek timely support from healthcare providers for breastfeeding-related concerns. Educational materials were distributed, and participants actively interacted with the resource persons. The programme successfully enhanced awareness regarding optimal infant feeding practices and emphasized the collective responsibility of families, healthcare workers, and the community in supporting breastfeeding and improving child health outcomes.
