Brief report of the event (in about 200 words) |
To commemorate World Hepatitis Day 2026, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences organized a Hepatitis Vaccination Campaign for MBBS students under the theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down.” The programme began with an awareness session highlighting the global burden of viral hepatitis, its modes of transmission, preventive measures, and the importance of hepatitis B vaccination for healthcare workers. Faculty members emphasized that medical students are at increased occupational risk of exposure to blood and body fluids and should be adequately protected before clinical postings. Following the awareness programme, a Hepatitis B vaccination camp was conducted at the Medicine OPD, AH & RC. Students were registered, screened for their vaccination history, medically assessed, and vaccinated if eligible. Counselling was provided regarding the complete three-dose hepatitis B vaccination schedule (0, 1, and 6 months), infection prevention measures, and the importance of completing all doses for long-term protection. Students were observed for any immediate adverse events following immunization (AEFI). The programme successfully increased awareness regarding viral hepatitis and encouraged hepatitis B vaccination among MBBS students, thereby promoting safer healthcare practices and contributing towards the global goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. |
