The event was graced by Dr. K.M Shivakumar, Principal & Dean, Health Sciences (Medical), ACU, Dr. Vasanthakumar M, Chief Librarian, ACU. The faculties of BGSIT, BGSCE, ACN, SACCP, the Administrative Office staff, AIMS, and all librarians and supporting staff of Adichunchanagiri University Libraries, and students were present on the occasion.

Objectives of the event

To celebrate **National Librarian’s Day** as a **Commemorative Event:

1. To celebrate National Librarians’ Day – 12th August 2026

2. To create awareness about the importance of librarians, and libraries in education, learning, and research.

3. To recognise and appreciate the dedicated services of librarians and library staff.

4. To promote the effective utilization of library resources among students and faculty.

5. To bring together faculty, librarians, library staff, and students and strengthen awareness of the role of libraries in the academic community.

Brief Report of the Event

The National Librarians’ Day Celebration was held on 12th August 2026 at 11:30 AM at the ACU Learning Resource Centre. All the ACU Librarians and supporting staffs, faculty members and students from various streams were participated.

The celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the important role of library professionals and libraries in the academic community. All the Librarians and Library Staff actively participated in the programme, making the event meaningful and successful.

The programme began with a Pooja ceremony, followed by talks on National Librarians’ Day and the valuable contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.

Dr. K M Shivakumar, Principal & Dean, Health Sciences (Medical), ACU was participated and graced the occasion. The principal wished all the Librarians and Library Staff on this occasion. He appreciated their dedicated services and valuable contributions towards education, learning, research, and knowledge dissemination.

Dr. M. Vasanthakumar, Chief Librarian, ACU Learning Resource Centre, spoke on the occasion about the National Librarians’ Day 2026. He highlighted the significance of the day, observed in Honor of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, and emphasised the important role of libraries and librarians in education, research, and knowledge dissemination.

Faculty members from AIMS, BGSIT, BGSCE, and ACN, along with MBBS, Natural Science, Engineering, and Pharmacy students were also actively participated in the programme.

The celebration provided an excellent opportunity to create awareness among students and the academic community about the importance of libraries and librarians. The active participation of librarians, library staff, and students made the programme meaningful and successful.

Participants appreciated the programme and found the information shared about National Librarians’ Day and the importance of libraries to be useful and informative. Overall, the programme was well received and successfully created awareness among the participants.

Participants gained brief knowledge about National Librarians’ Day and the contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The celebration also encouraged the effective utilization of library resources and promoted a greater appreciation for libraries in supporting education, learning, and research.
